Just because the summer is over does not mean you can’t still enjoy outdoor movie nights!  Capitol Riverfront BID is showing Apollo 13 at Canal Park at 7:30 tonight.

Since cabs will be scarce in parts of NW, stay local for live music.  Head over to Sova on Friday at 9pm for DJ Phillip Goyette, or go over the the Rock and Roll Hotel for the Legendary Shack Shakers and Billy Woodward & The Senders.

Now that it’s officially October, how about getting into the Halloween spirit with ghost tour of Capitol Hill? Starting this Friday, and on every Friday and Saturday evening throughout October, there will be a tour around Barracks Row at 8:00 PM for $15. The tour begins at Eastern Market Metro and will last about an hour. The distance covered will be about a mile, so wear comfortable walking shoes. And don’t forget – this week ONLY there is a $5 discount for anyone who mentions The Hill is Home! Added bonus: Tunnicliff’s is offering their happy hour rates to all ticket holders after the tour.

In the mood for some arts?  The Evolve Urban Arts Project opens a photography exhibit by Betto Ortiz, Exotic Textures, at the Pierce School Lofts (1375 Maryland Avenue, NE) on Saturday, 4 to 7 p.m.

Finish off your day with some dancing and celebrating…and fund raising for a long-time Hill program. Capitol Hill Arts Workshop holds its eighth annual Arts Ball this Saturday at 7pm. The theme this year is Indian Nights, and “CHAW’s building will be transformed into an Indian Odyssey, including a Taj Mahal gallery of art-to-be-auctioned, entertainment in the Bollywood Theater, dancing in the Bombay Palace, and shopping in the Delhi Bazaar.” There will be a silent auction with all proceeds going to CHAW’s tuition assistance, outreach, and educational programs.

On Sunday, take your furry best friend to get blessed at the Blessing of the Pets at Christ Church Washington Parish, 620 G St. SE.  The custom of blessing animals in the fall is in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi, whose feast day is celebrated on Oct. 4. Cider, donuts and animal treats will be served after the blessing.

Monday is the kickoff of D.C. School Garden Week. Stop by Watkins Elementary School at 420 12th St, SE at 10am to work in the garden, see the student garden photo contest winners, hear from experts and learn about Watkins Elementary’s Living Schoolyard.  Events continue throughout the week.
