Special "The Hill is Home" Ghost Tour Deal

GhostSeveral local tour guides, including Tim Krepp and myself, will be offering ghost tours of Capitol Hill during the month of October. The tours will start at Eastern Market Metro and wind their way around and through Barracks Row, while intermingling history and legend in a spooky and entertaining manner.

More details, including a special deal for “The Hill is Home” readers, over the jump.

Capitol Hill is full of ghosts. Ghosts of famous people, ghosts of unfortunates, ghosts of famous unfortunates. All of them have stuck around this place like congresspeople from safe districts, and continue to haunt the living today. Recounting all these stories would take all night, but starting this weekend, you will have a chance to hear a selection of them while viewing the locations where the ghosts are known to be. With a little bit of luck – and some imagination – maybe you can see one of them yourself.

So starting this Friday, and on every Friday and Saturday evening throughout October, there will be a tour around Barracks Row at 8:00 PM.

The tour begins at Eastern Market Metro and will last about an hour. The distance covered will be about a mile, so hiking boots are not necessary, but comfortable walking shoes probably are a good idea.

The tour costs $15 per person and, as an added bonus, Tunnicliff’s is offering their happy hour rates to all ticket holders after the tour.

This Friday, there is a special offer to “The Hill is Home” readers:  mention the blog to receive a $5 discount. The offer is good this Friday only, so be sure to meet us. Pay at the door, but send an email to info@ghosttoursdc.com to reserve your space. And if your house is haunted, tell us all about it – maybe it’ll be added to the tour!

  1. I’ve always thought that my grandma’s house was haunted. I usually feel something cold touch me during my stay there at night. But I haven’t seen a single ghost yet. In this tour, will you perform some rituals that will actually attract ghosts? I’d love to see one!

  2. Elizabeth says:

Rituals that attract ghosts? Robert, I am not going to be ghost bait, am I, Saturday night?

  3. Tim Krepp says:

Not at all, Liz. Our ghosts, a generally moody and uncooperative bunch, have yet to make a personal appearance upon demand. Robert, myself, and the other guides have more than enough problems on this temporal plane to actively court trouble on another.

That being said, we have thoroughly researched and documented their presence here on the Hill, as well as elsewhere in DC.

I did mention to our spectral partners we were bringing someone pure of spirit along Saturday night, though. It would be terribly embarrassing if I was wrong….

  4. I took the Capitol Hill Ghost Tour Saturday night and had a fabulous time. I really enjoyed hearing all the stories the guides shared with us during the tour.

I enjoy going on historic district walking tours in the neighborhood and around the city. This tour was fun because it mixed history in with the ghost stories, a natural combination since ghosts tend to be historical in nature.
