ANC Meeting Roundup

Couldn’t make your recent ANC meeting?  Don’t fret, we’ve got the highlights for you right here.  If you want to know more, contact your local commissioner or attend your monthly meeting to ensure that your voice is heard in matters affecting your neighborhood.

  • ANC6A – The commission reported that the new H Street Connection retail/residential development will include a 7-Eleven.  Commissioner Ronneberg also agreed to look further into the issue of legally parked cars in the AutoZone parking lot receiving tickets at night.  Commissioner Alberti is concerned about the recklessness of Al’s Pizzeria’s delivery drivers.  The commission voted to protest a tavern license for The Queen Vic, a soon-to-open spot on H Street, unless the owners sign a voluntary agreement.  The commission is also sending a letter to the DC Department of Transportation supporting the installation of stop signs on Constitution Avenue at 10th Street, NE.  A full summary from The Voice of the Hill can be found here.
  • ANC6B – The commission discussed draft design guidelines for the proposed Barney Circle Historic District; a public hearing on whether or not to designate Barney Circle a historic district will be held in late June.  Commissioner Jarboe discussed the work that will be done by a new committee on retail mix; the committee will be focusing on Pennsylvania Avenue, 7th Street and 8th Street.  The commission voted to oppose Banana Cafe’s request to extend the hours of its liquor license and sidewalk seating due to concerns raised by neighbors about current noise issues.  The owner was reportedly surprised at the concerns raised by the neighbors and agreed to work with them through the negotiation process.  The commission also voted to support the renewal of Aatish’s liquor license and an exemption on the sale of “singles” by Chat’s Liquors.  The owner said he would sell high-end specialty beers and spirits.   A full summary from The Voice of the Hill can be found here.
  • ANC6C – The commission voted to support several key Office of Planning amendments to the city’s plan for mixed-use development over Union Station’s train tracks.  The commission also voted to support plans for the annual Capitol Hill Classic on May 16.  This year’s 10K will be the last because expenses to close the streets for the race have become too high – costs have reportedly risen 400 percent in five years.  A full summary from The Voice of the Hill can be found here.
