Since 2009, The Hill is Home has been serving the Capitol Hill neighborhood as an online news source designed to build community, connect neighbors, share news, and celebrate Washington, DC’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. We are staffed by a volunteer corps of Capitol Hill residents who seek to provide a current and relevant online experience to Hill residents through contributing breaking news stories, features, profiles of residents, reviews and opinion pieces.
We publish original articles, opinion pieces, reviews, humor, and an occasional edited press release. We also mine local list-serves and blogs for items of interest to our readers.
We are fans of Capitol Hill, but recognize that the nature of community is ever changing and filled with conflict, and with collaboration. On the Hill, there are thousands of stories. Small case stories, and large case stories. These are the stories we want to tell, and in them there will be lessons to learn, and mistakes to learn from.
We hope to bring curiosity, inquiry and facts to our readers, and hope the community will benefit from this online voice. Community members are also encouraged to contribute, and add their voices by joining our writers’ corps or commenting on posts.
Author Terry Tempest Williams says “I have inherited a belief in community, the promise that a gathering of the spirit can both create and change culture.” That captures our intent quite eloquently.
