Meet the Candidates: Neil Glick ANC 6B08

We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home.  These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.

Neil Glick ANC 6B08

I’m Neil Glick, a Hill East neighbor and homeowner since 1998 and I intend to be your neighbor in the years ahead. I thank you for the honor to serve as your five term ANC Commissioner.

Due to the work of neighbors and me, we have tangible positive growth in Hill East.  With the support of the neighbors, I am a voice of this positive change and a voice for the residents.  When no one will listen to the issues of neighbors, I listen and I take action. I stand up for what is right for our neighborhood. I am your advocate. I put neighbors first.

Some of my successes for our neighborhood are:

– Ending the Sale of Singles. Within the ANC, I successfully led the ban of the sale of single bottles alcohol in our neighborhood. Because of this crimes against quality of life have decreased in Hill East.

– Public Safety: When several neighbors were brutally attacked, I was the only elected official to stand up against this and get more public safety resources. I worked closely with the Police and Guardian Angels in making our neighborhood friendly for the resident and less friendly for crime. I’m a vocal advocate for traffic calming. Because of my work, there have been more stop signs and traffic signs installed in our neighborhood.

– Quality of Life: I helped create two neighborhood parks (15th and South Carolina and 17th and Mass) I worked on ensuring that the Boys and Girls Club at 17th and Massachusetts Ave SE stays a community amenity. I worked with the US Postal Service to improve mail delivery to Hill East. I have been a supporter of our Hill East community gardens.

– Smart development: I consistently stand against development that does not fit our neighborhood character. I am a vocal proponent of seeing positive economic development (residential, commercial and offices) at the Hill East Waterfront (DC General Campus). I worked on making several vacant and dilapidated properties in Hill East into a positive part of the neighborhood.

– I am the only candidate that has consistently been a proponent of equality for all DC residents in governmental recognition, whether it is marriage, adoption, or wills and estates.

– I support open meetings for ANC 6B.

– In my professional work as a non-profit fundraiser, I helped raise over $163 million for 3400 local, national, and international charities.

Over the next two years, I will continue my work on seeing the development of the Boys and Girls Club finish and see the start of development at the Hill East Waterfront (Reservation 13), and continue my work on public safety/quality of life issues.

I am the only candidate that accepts no campaign contributions. This means I am loyal to the voters. I am not in the back pocket of any person or special interest group.

I ask for your vote for another term as ANC Commissioner. I believe I am the best person to lead us based on my ten years of service to our neighborhood, my relationship with you – my neighbors and residents of this great community, as well as the positive working relationships that I built with our City Council, Mayor’s Office and City Government.
