Need Something to Read? Tomorrow is Your Lucky Day

For some of us, there’s nothing so lovely as a good book. Imagine a book brimming with books? Sure, upstairs at the Southeast Library you can find a bounty of great reads, but the basement is where you’ll find fantastic deals on volumes to add to your personal collection. Head over to the Southeast Library tomorrow morning and you’ll have your pick.

Friends of Southeast Library (FoSEL) Book Sale sells thousands of inexpensive used books each month. They’re donated by Capitol Hill neighbors and are sold to benefit the children’s programs at the library. Southeast Library is one of the smallest (and busiest) branch libraries in the city with little space to store and sort these donated books. That sounds like a justifiable reason to bring home a stack.

A book sale on the second Saturday of each month is part of the machine that keeps the library both vibrant and beautiful. Members of the Friends of the Southeast Library put thousands books in the basement and on the sidewalk. Just about every variety of book is included, and most of them, hardback and paperback, go for just one dollar. Each dollar goes right back into the library.

Do you love books and feel like giving back to your community? Join the Friends of the Library. “Membership” costs just four or five hours of your time each month. You’ll be helping the kids in your community, and you’ll get first dibs on the books. Watch people marvel over the stacks — and a bonus:  volunteers get pastries and pizza.  Please email friendsofsoutheastlibrary@gmail.com if interested.
