We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home. These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.
I originally moved to this area, a few blocks from my current address, more than 25 years ago. The longest I’ve lived in a single place during my lifetime is across South Capitol Street, beginning in the 80s. After leaving, I lived in Maryland and Virginia, but I returned to the neighborhood just over 3 years ago.
I remember the community before Metro, the baseball stadium and other physical improvements, as well as, the current redevelopment. The changes to the community have been dramatic and together with development yet to be completed, they will form our environment for many years to come. My desire to support the completion of the transformation is a large part of my motivation in running for the ANC.
In the last 3 years I have interacted with individuals, organizations, government agencies, our ANC and City Counsel Committees on issues of importance to the local community, several including CSX and the Virginia Avenue Tunnel, parking, streetcars, and public space, are transportations issues. I have also participated in economic development issues, such as DCHA, Hope VI, and Zoning.
I support smart neighborhood development, educational and recreational opportunities, and responsive government in our community. and our ANC is our means to that end.
I have the time, energy, and desire to take part in meetings, hearings, and other forums to both obtain information and convey the community perspective.
I have demonstrated my familiarity with some of the issues and the ability and willingness to listen to ALL voices and views of ALL community members.
