ANC:

Meet the Candidates: Peter Gould, ANC 6B10

We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home.  These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.

unnamedI’m asking for your vote to be our ANC Commissioner because I love our neighborhood and the next two years will determine whether many neighbors, both longterm and new families, are able to make Hill East our home for the long run.  If elected our ANC Commissioner I will make three things my highest priorities:

1. Payne Elementary Improvements–The ability of many young families to make Hill East their long term home depends on one thing, ensuring that Payne Elementary is a modern, high-performing, safe school where any parent can confidently send their children. Without that, our neighborhood will soon become a detour on the road to the suburbs for many of us that want to raise our families here.

2. Reservation 13–I refuse to be dismissed by our Mayor’s Office and Council when it comes to following the Hill East Master Plan and keeping their promises to redevelop the Hill East Waterfront from an unsafe dumping ground for services into a connection of our community to the waterfront we deserve. I’ll also work to rename the Metro station “Hill East” to fit the community it serves.

3. Adapt the ANC Input Process–When the only public input mechanism is long midweek meetings, there’s zero chance the community is actually being heard.  We must adapt the ANC to the needs and schedules of all by providing more options for learning about issues, City presentations, and providing informed input using free and widely accessible technology.
