So this weekend and the next could be all about Fringe if you were to let it. But we know there is still some soccer yet to be played. Anything else?

Tonight is the start of the 9th Annual Capital Fringe festival. This year the unjuried arts-fest has a larger presence here on the east-side at the Atlas in advance of the scrappy organization’s move to Florida avenue next summer. All of the theatre spaces of the Atlas will be in use. There are shows about love, the end of the world, hamsters, Jane Austen and a 60’s one-hit wonder. You can see all the Fringe offerings on the website.

Friday night at the Hill Center, the Tough Dames in Satin Slips  film series continues with Blonde Venus starring Marlene Dietrich. The series explores Hollywood’s darker pre-Hays code days. “he movies that emerged from Hollywood in those first, “pre-code”years of the 1930s are often racier, more cynical, darker and franker than movies would be for many years afterward.” The movie is free and begins at 7pm. Saturday the Friends of the Southeast Library will hold its monthly  book sale.  The Southeast Library is at 403 7th St. S.E., Washington, DC 20003, right across from the Eastern Market Metro.  The sale begins at 10:00 am and ends at 3 pm.

Saturday night at the Corner Store presents the Brazilian Duo Minas. Let’s hope they have receovered from the Germany game by then. The concerts begin at 7 PM, with doors opening at 6:30. The requested donation is $20 with rsvp, or $25 walk-in.

Open Studio art space on Florida Avenue is hosting and art opening/moving party Saturday night before they take up residence in Ivy City. The show features work by Carolyn Hartmann, Pepa Leon, Fawna Xiao, JD Deardourff and David Bellard. The studio is at 1348 Florida Ave NE and the party runs from 7pm to 9pm.
