What better way to enjoy a warm summer day in Yards Park than with a tasty ice cream cone?

Many of you have likely sampled the delicious ice creams from Ice Cream Jubilee already; they have been out with their ice cream cart frequently over the last few months, including at the Friday night concerts. At long last though, their storefront in the Lumber Shed building is opening this weekend!

On Friday, stop-by between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. for a “pay what you want” public “soft-opening.” They will be open for regular business at 6 p.m., just in time for the evening concert at Yards Park.

On Saturday, they will celebrate their grand opening from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. RSVP on their Facebook Page for more information on the activities going on throughout the day.

Ice Cream Jubilee was started by Victoria Lai, who moved to D.C. in 2009 for a job working as a presidential appointee at the Department of Homeland Security.  In the evenings and weekends, she devoted her time to her love for ice cream, coming up with new flavors and recipes and hosting tasting sessions in friends’ homes. In 2013, she attended the famous Penn State University ice cream seminar and started selling twelve flavors in grocery stores and restaurants. Last summer, Ice Cream Jubilee was voted People’s Choice for Best Ice Cream at the D.C. Scoop competition.

I got the chance to visit the new store and sample about a half dozen flavors this week and was delighted with every taste. You can stick with basics, such as vanilla or chocolate, or get adventurous with flavors such as Thai Iced Tea, Fig and Honey, Mango Habenero, or many more. And, for the adult taste buds, try out the Dark and Stormy, Banana Bourbon Caramel, or Gin and Tonic. The flavors will regularly rotate and you can expect new ones to be regularly featured.

Victoria also plans to introduce ice cream cakes, ice cream sandwiches, floats and milk shakes in the coming months. Her enthusiasm for the countess things you can do with ice cream is infectious. And, my desire to sample it all is sure to challenge my diet. But, it will be a tasty ride.
