My heart skipped a beat when I heard the Friday Night Concert Series starts next Friday night at Yards Park. I still can’t believe we have such a great venue and reliably good bands do their things and I can walk to get there.
This week features Jimmy Smooth playing R&B with his band, and I can vouch for these guys. They’re regulars and always get people off their blankets. You’re sure to see 60-year olds sharing the dance floor with 2- year olds. Concerts run through the summer and include everything from reggae to salsa, pop and a Dave Mathews tribute band.
Things start at 6:30 p.m., but picnicking starts much earlier. You’ll see many picnic baskets, and beer and wine is unofficially allowed (it’s a private park) but you can also buy food and drinks from vendors. We’re not talking half-smokes, so bring your wallets. The concert ends about 8:30 p.m.
