I know you’re bummed they rescheduled the Gaga concert but what’s going on this weekend?

Tonight ‘the international voice of jazz” Nnenna Freelon performs at  the Atlas. Known for her flawless take on the standards and her exquisite phrasing Freelon is also a six-time Grammy nominee. Tickets are available here.

Friday Taffety Punk is back in action at CHAW with Charm, a play about Margaret Fuller, journalist and Transcendentalist who was the inspiration for Hawthorne’s  Hester Prynne.  The show runs in repertory with Bloody Poetry, which tells the story of Romantic poets Percy Shelley and Lord Byron and their legendary love lives. The shows run through the end of May. Tickets and the full schedule are available here.

The Washington Post’s Chris Richards continues his District Sounds Series at the Hill Center with an interview and concert by Redline Graffiti. Named for a stretch of graffiti art that runs along Washington DC’s oldest public train line, the quartet’s sound is s garage rock mixed with electronica and R&B. The talk begins at 7 and the concert should get going around 7:30. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door and can be purchased here. 

Saturday check out Volunteer Capitol Hill at the Hill Center. The event runs from 10 am to 2pm. A full list of the participating organizations can be found here.

The Friends of the Southeast Library hosts its monthly book sale Saturday morning from 10am to 3pm. Apparently this will be a good one becasue they told us they have a “ton” of books.

Victory Gardens DC is hosting a planting for a start up garden for low income residents. Victory Gardens DC is a quarter-acre urban farm located in an alley lot behind  426 15th Street SE, . Founders Alex and Julia Shek launched the project in April 2014 to address the problem of food insecure families blocks away from the U.S. Capitol. 

The new Crossfit DC gym (in the location of the former H Street Playhouse, 1365 H Street NE) opens holds their gran opening event on Saturday. There will be cross fit demos fro the newbies and a free chance to work out for those who are familiar with the training regimen.

So this event is not on the Hill but it’s for a good cause. DC Sail is hosting a Happy Hour from 6pm – 10 pm to support the work it does getting under-served children out on the water. The event is at  Alba Osteria at 425 I Street NW. More information can be found here.

Sunday is Mother’s Day! If your mom is nosy like me take her on the Capitol Hill Restoration Society’s Annual House Tour.

Then relax and get ready for Monday night’s Bar Madness Happy Hour at Beuchert’s Saloon. Hope to see many of you there!
