How Ward 6 Voted

I love digging into election result numbers to see just how each section of the city voted. It insightful and discouraging at the same time since our city is still very much divided. For the city-wide breakdown of the mayoral election, I’ll just point you to the Washington Post’s interactive map showing how different neighborhoods and demographics voted.

As for Ward 6, here are some of the top numbers:

  • As of February 28, 2014, there were 66,889 registered voters in Ward 6.
    • 48,035 Democrats
    • 5,977 Republicans
    • 499 Statehood Green Party
    • 55 Libertarian
    • 153 “Other”
    • 12,170 with no political affiliation
  • Ward 6 saw a 24.21% voter turnout, which was only slightly higher than the city-wide 22.5%. In the 2010 primary, which was the last one to be held in September, 42.83% of voters in Ward 6 came out. That’s a pretty substantial drop.
  • City-wide, Tommy Wells received 12.5% of the vote. Ward 6 gave him 4,071 votes of the 10,181 he received in total.
  • Muriel Bowser got 4,850 of her 35,899 total votes in Ward 6, and Gray got just 2,971 of his 26,209 votes in our Ward.
  • The following map and chart breaks down voter registration by precinct.
