Winter is still here. No one has booked me a trip to Mexico and so I am still here.  For those of you who are still able to summon the will to don the apparel and leave the house here are a few ideas.

Tonight find out which “singer” will reign supreme at the H Street Karaoke Finals at the Rock and Roll Hotel. The finalists have been chosen after qualifying rounds Tuesday and Wednesday at Sticky Rice and Litlle Miss Whiskey’s Golden Dollar. Tonight they go for the title. Doors open at 8pm and the competition begins at 9pm.  The event is free.

Friday kicks off weekend 2 of the INTERSECTIONS Festival at the Atlas. Again so much to choose from. Friday morning Arts on the Horizon opens their show for babies, Under the Canopy and that night the Latin band Los Hacheros will have folks on their feet and ukulele player  (and human trumpet) Victoria Vox pairs her quirky sound with classical cellist Kate Chambers.

Down the street at Sticky Rice the Mason Dixie Burlesque Tour makes its DC stop. The “hottest vixens from both sides of the Mason-Dixon” will perform two shows at 9pm and 11pm. If you were planning to take the kids or grandma for sushi and tater tots go early. Unless grandma is cool with pasties then go for it. Tickets are $12 Advance and $15 door. Purchase them here.

On Saturday INTERSECTIONS will be kid central for the afternoon, beginning with a free Boogie Babes concert featuring the calypso-tinged Bridgette and Dawn and free circus activities by Zip Zap circus in the lobby. Zip Zap has two ticketed performances featuring their high-flying antics later at 5:30 and 8pm. B-Fly Entertainment brings  the cross cultural The Nayika Project featuring hip hop artist Paige Hernandez and Kuchipudi dancer Chitra Kalyandurg at 7pm. The chamber group All Points West has a concert at 7 and your ticket also entitles you to one Atlas Brew beer.

River Park Nursery School holds its annual sock hop from 4pm-7pm at the Church of the Reformation. Food, drinks and a live auction can be enjoyed by all while listening to everyone’s favorite Mr. Skip. Tickets are $35 per family and can be found here.

Sunday at INTERSECTIONS Bodywise Dance performs a participatory dance-theatre piece followed by a workshop called Every Week of Winter at 1:30, great for audiences 5 and up. Dance fans can choose between Jane Franklin Dance Company, Dissonance Dance and Xuejuan Dance.

Sunday evening (Oscar night!) Jan’s Tutoring House hosts their annual pre-Oscar Red-Carpet event at the Hill Center from 6pm to 8pm. The evening features a reception, silent auction and an awards ceremony and the proceeds support the organizations work with local youth. Tickets begin at $75.
