This Week One Year Ago

logo2On year ago, our resident historian had beer on his mind. Lost Capitol Hill featured the city’s first brewery, Washington Brewery built by Mr. Cornelius Coningham in an old sugar factory.  This week we again celebrate DC Beer. Earlier this week, News Channel 4 reported the DC Brau owners have raised their minimum wage, hoping to set an example to business owners in the city, if not to behemoth soon-to-be employer Walmart.

In Hill Buzz, the Washington Post reported that The Pug had to remove the  “Marion Berry’s Dirty Asian Summer Punch” from its menu. A Prince of Petworth reader sent in a photo of a daytime drug deal going on in Stanton Park. Young & Hungry interviewed the chef behind Union Market. See more here.

Fundraising and grassroots activism comes in all kinds of forms. The Canine Corp, the growing group of folks who pay to walk their pups at the Congressional Cemetery, was born of hopes to make the historic grounds, located adjacent to the DC Jail, safer and to raise funds for the crumbling and deteriorating 35 acre property. Now, the group is hosting chamber musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra.
