Next weekend is Labor Day and the official end to summer, but DC Public Schools begin classes on Monday so for many folks this weekend is our last hurrah. So how should you spend these last precious moments?

Tonight at 6 p.m. the Atlas Performing Arts Center begins its new monthly happy hour series. Located in the swank lobby space, the happy hour features drink specials and entertainment. Tonight, check out the music of DJ RBI and local spoken word artist Goldie Dean.

As mentioned in this week’s East City Arts round-up, on Friday night at tabula rasa on Barracks Row, local art organization ArtSee is hosting an Art Fair.  See 14 emerging and established artists showing their work, also for sale. The pieces are under $250, so no need to break the bank to support local art. The event is free and runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Drinks will be available.

Saturday learn to cook an Italian meal at the Hill Center.  Chef Wendi James has a bachelors in hospitality management from the University of Illinois and is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Paris, the world’s largest and most renowned culinary school. She will be teaching students to prepare steak crostini, lemon herb risotto, panzenella, and a berry “misu” parfait. The cost of the class, which runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. is $65. Sign-up here.

Sunday afternoon catch the 3 p.m. matinee of Rorschach Theatre’s Neverwhere. The play is based on the book by Neil Gaiman, who was dissatisfied with the original television British miniseries. The show has been getting rave reviews, so you are in for a good time. Tickets here.
