Print Out Those Signs — #SoutheastLove Redux!

Remember #SoutheastLove? This past February, after a noticeable uptick in online misunderstanding of who, what, and where Southeast DC is, my coworker and friend Nikki Peele and I decided to spread some love for our quadrant with a campaign to get people smiling about the part of the city we live and work in — and both love an awful lot.

After running around Southeast — through Anacostia, Navy Yard, the Hill, Hillcrest, and more — tweeting and Instagramming our simple sign with business owners, residents, and government officials, other people around the city starting drawing and printing their own signs and publicizing their Southeast love via social media. People picked up on the fact that Southeast doesn’t always get the positive attention it deserves, and jumped at the opportunity to join a campaign based completely on neighborhood and quadrant pride and appreciation.
8484291298_b1370d1427Today we’re at it again — this time with NBC Washington in tow for part of the morning. No matter where you are, if you love DC’s Southeast quadrant, please take a moment to print a sign and share your own #SoutheastLove via social media. If you see us around Southeast, please don’t hesitate to give us a shout!

David Garber is the Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner in the Navy Yard neighborhood and runs a grant program to improve storefronts in historic Anacostia. His #SoutheastLove (and, admittedly, #SouthwestLove, #NortheastLove, and #NorthwestLove) runs deep.

Would love a sign, a button to wear, or a tag to hang from my backpack, but don’t want a scribd membership, so I can’t print or download one. I’d buy one if I could get it at Eastern Market or local merchants. Maybe a fundraiser for a SE nonprofit, school, or event? We do all love our “markers” of belonging to SE (Fragers and Save Eastern Market t-shirts, for example). I love this campaign, and I would love to see it continue!
