Your Guide to Halloween on the Hill

Halloween on the Hill is one of the best times of the year. The leaves are falling, there’s a chill in the air but not so much so that kids are forced to wear winter jackets under their costumes (this cramped my style the year I was Cinderella and I’ve never really gotten over it).

Point being, the Hill does Halloween well.

Labyrinth is holding a Murder Mystery Party at The Hill Center this Sunday, Oct 21 from 5-8pm. $100 gift certificates to Labyrinth will be awarded for best costume and best mystery solver. Tickets are $45 per person. More information here.

Congressional Cemetery’s Ghost & Goblets Soiree is on Saturday, Oct 27th from 6-8:30pm. The evening will feature “torchlight graveyard tours, organ music, hauntings” and perhaps a visit or two from one of the cemetery’s 55,000 “residents!” Tickets are $75 per person.

Wednesday, October 31:

Hilloween at Eastern Market is a wonderland for all things Halloween. There will be plenty of activities and food and drink for kids and adults alike. It’s a must-do, especially if you’ve never been!

Boorito = Discounted Burrito Alert. Chipotle is inviting customers to “come into any Chipotle on Halloween from 4pm to closing dressed in a costume” and they’ll “hook you up with a burrito, bowl, salad, or an order of tacos made with responsibly raised ingredients for just $2.” With the new location on Barracks Row, this is an easy dinner stop with the kiddos before trick or treating begins!

And don’t forget to enter your pet in our costume contest!

UPDATED 10/22/12: For those of you who have asked via Twitter, Howl to the Chief will be holding its annual Howl-O-Ween pet costume contest on Saturday, October 27, from 2-4 pm at Lincoln Park.

A note on Trick-or-Treating: Capitol Hill is a great place to do the candy rounds, and you are guaranteed a filled bag because most everyone is really generous. If you are Trick-or-Treating with little ones younger than 7, my common-sense advice as a mother of two would be to start around 5 pm and hit East Capitol on the early side, before it gets dark and crowded. Sunset on Halloween will happen at 6:08 pm, so plan accordingly.
