Meet the Candidates: Phil Peisch, ANC 6B03

We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home.  These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.

Capitol Hill is a wonderful neighborhood, with strong public elementary schools, beautiful and historic residential streets, vibrant commercial corridors, and a great sense of community. This did not happen by accident—it is the result of decades of hard work by residents.

I’m running to represent Single Member District 6B03 because I want to help build on these successes and preserve the accomplishments that have been achieved. As a commissioner, I will focus on three priorities.

First, I will work to improve public safety. We have a right to feel safe and secure in our neighborhood. Whether advocating for more police patrols on bicycle and foot, or better street lighting, I will demand that city officials provide our community with the resources necessary to keep our homes and streets safe.

Second, I will work with neighbors to balance the growth of 8th Street with residential livability. Barracks Row is a great asset to our neighborhood, and ensuring that it continues to thrive in a way that is compatible with its residential neighbors is an ongoing challenge.

As a commissioner, I will serve as a voice for residents and facilitate cooperation with local businesses to address important concerns about parking, noise, trash maintenance, and rat control.

Third, I will advocate for better city services for our neighborhood. Whether pushing for responsive cleanup after storms or more prompt sidewalk repair, I will work to make sure that the District provides Capitol Hill with the services our community deserves. In addition, although the ANC has not traditionally played an active role in public education, I plan to be a vocal advocate for our local schools.

I hope that my campaign for ANC will give voters an idea about the type of commissioner I will be. I have knocked on hundreds of doors, and I have distributed my e-mail address and cell phone number to almost a thousand households. As your commissioner, I will continue to proactively seek your input on neighborhood issues, and my door will always be open to residents.

About Me

My wife and I live on G Street SE, and spend much of our free time enjoying everything great about the Hill. For the past year, I’ve served as the 6B03 resident member on ANC 6B’s Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Committee.

I work as an attorney at a law firm in DC, and I have lived in DC for most of the past 8 years. Previously, I served as a law clerk to a federal district court judge and a federal court of appeals judge, and I worked in the U.S. Senate for two years. I graduated from Georgetown University Law Center and Dartmouth College.
