Meet the Candidates: Jay Williams, ANC 6A05

We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home.  These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.

My name is Jay Williams, and I am running for Commissioner of ANC 6A05.  I have lived on Capitol Hill for over seven years, and in 6A05 specifically for nearly five years.  In my time on the Hill, I have completely fallen in love with the neighborhood.  I have seen the neighborhood from very different perspectives and have learned to appreciate it in many ways: I moved here as a law student, then married my wife (Corinne Cannon), and now we have a three-year-old son, Jack.  Recently, I have become a writer for The Hill is Home, which has allowed me to write about the neighborhood and become even more engaged with my neighbors.  In addition to my “day job” as an attorney, Corinne and I founded the DC Diaper Bank, which in two short years has become a successful Hill-based nonprofit, working to distribute diapers to families in need across the DC metropolitan area.  Through my involvement with the DCDB, I have seen firsthand how amazing and generous our neighbors and neighborhood businesses can be.

I am running for ANC Commissioner because after some conversations with the current commissioner, I became convinced that this is a position I would enjoy, would use my skills well, and would allow me to work hard as an advocate for my neighbors.  Just as importantly, it would allow me to give back to a community from which my family has received so much.  As Commissioner, I intend to be accessible to anyone who lives in 6A05, and will make every effort to represent their interests.  Although I have my own ideas for what issues are the biggest priorities for the neighborhood (you can find more information at my website, http://www.jayforanc.com), I will be a representative of my neighbors first and will advocate for any issue that is important to them.

All neighbors are welcome to contact me via email (jbwilliams3@gmail.com), phone, (202-906-0657), or Twitter (@jaybeas).  And, of course, if you see me around the neighborhood, feel free to flag me down for a chat!
