My move to the District of Columbia solidified my interest in local politics. I want to help improve my neighborhood and the City I now call home. After considerable reflection, I made the decision to run for a Commissioner seat on the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) for Ward 6 Single Member District (SMD) 6D02.
If elected, I will engage and listen to the residents of SMD 6D02. Listening allows me to ascertain and understand the issues that impact their everyday lives. To make myself available to my constituents, I will hold weekly “coffee hours” at small businesses in our District so residents of SMD 6D02 can stop by and talk with me and simultaneously support a local business in our area. Through meaningful dialogue we can work together to better our SMD and the City.
One the most important issues in my Single Member District is economic development. The impending economic development will cause significant changes to the cityscape of Southwest and Southeast DC (SW/SE DC) and will ultimately shape how residents view and interact within our Single Member District. As Commissioner, it’s my job to advocate for our SMD regarding these changes. We have to make certain that development enhances the family-style environment that SW/SE DC provides. Poor planning may result in excess noise, limited parking, crime and traffic. Such an outcome would have a negative impact on our blossoming community. Therefore, my charge is to ensure that the developers enhance the community we live in and not simply profit it.
Please work with me for a better SMD 6D02. Learn more about my campaign at: www.damoncpatton.com. And on November 6, 2012, vote for Damon C. Patton, ANC Commissioner SMD 6D02.
