Dear Neighbors,
My name is Chander Jayaraman. I am grateful for the opportunity to submit my name as a candidate for the office of Associated Neighborhood Commissioner for 6B08. As a background, I have lived on Capitol Hill since moving to Washington in 1995 from Kansas City and have lived in the 1400 block of Independence Avenue for the past eight years with my wife and son.
I seek this office because our diverse neighborhood faces on-going concerns and new challenges as it grows and evolves. I want to be your voice in the discussion that will take place on the important issues before us. That is why, as I have walked around our neighborhood, I continually ask residents about their concerns, problems they see and ideas that they have for addressing these challenges. I am humbled by the enormous wealth of knowledge and insight that our neighborhood possesses.
Ward 6 is undergoing significant changes from the development of Reservation 13 along the Anacostia, to the redevelopment of Hine and the long awaited construction of the CAG Building on 15th Street. Our neighborhood also faces on going challenges with the increase of crime on our streets, and especially violent crime that threatens the harmony of our neighborhood.
Over the coming weeks, I will ask for your thoughts and advice and take these to the ANC if I am elected. I will work hard to find solutions to these challenges that impact us all and forcefully express the wishes of our neighborhood on other issues that come before ANC 6B.
