Meet the Candidates, Andrew Hysell, ANC 6A06

We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home.  These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.

My candidacy for reelection is motivated by the fact that much work remains to be done.  A date of operation for the streetcar still remains an abstraction with city bureaucracy creating unnecessary delays for the project.  With community input, the timetable must be accelerated. As the number of residents and visitors continues to increase, the need for mass transit options will only grow.

Development continues which is encouraging but brings with it a host of problems that affect constituents living in my district.  I worked with the Mariano’s who own a house on Florida Avenue to have their story told by Fox5 of a developer that caused extensive damage to their enjoining row house.  I have listened to concerns from homeowners in the alley behind the bars on H Street and convened discussions with the business community about noise, trash, and crime.  And I have used my advisory capacity as a Commissioner to the full extent to express the community’s opposition to the Shell station and voice concerns about the process surrounding the expansion of the Options Charter School.

Much more remains to be done and I hope I will have the opportunity to continue serving my community.

Andrew Hysell
