A Wednesday midday armed robbery has a number of Hill East residents on edge. NBC4 Washington reports that the GameStops at Jenkins Row was robbed by three masked men, carrying two guns. Customers were told to lay on the ground while the men stole money and Xbox video game systems.
Meanwhile, the daylight robbery was followed by a report of a street mugging at the 500 block of G Street, SE on Wednesday evening. ANC Commissioner Norman Metzger, said a neighbor reported that her daughter was attacked around 8 p.m. by five teenagers carrying knives and wearing ski masks. An MPD official said it’s possible that the same group of juveniles are responsible for a robbery that occurred later in the evening in the 900 block of 3rd Street, SE.
The crimes are part of a string of incidents that have recently occurred on Capitol Hill, including the violent attack and physical beating of TC Maslin, which took place on August 18th. Last week, Maslin’s wife, Abby, appeared in court to face two of the three men charged in the violent assault.
In response to the crimes and violence, the Ward 6 community will hold a Fall Safety Festival at Brent Elementary on Sunday.
