Just when we thought that we had lost former Seventh Hill pizza maker and pie perfectionist, Anthony Pilla, for good, comes news that he’s teaming up with another pizza shop on H Street.
On Wednesday, Pilla tweeted that he’s joining the staff at H &pizza.
Neither H &pizza or Pilla were immediately available for comment, but The Hill is Home will report back when we learn more.
UPDATE: We reached Pilla by phone at H &pizza on Thursday morning. He would not go into specific details about the new job, or why he decided on the move.
“Right now, I’m really just trying to get established,” Pilla said.
H &pizza owner Steve Salis said the shop is excited to have Anthony on board.
“Anthony is working hard, and we are glad he’s a part of our team. He brings a lot of skills to the table, and he has started working in our kitchen,” Salis said.
Pilla originally announced the news of the move to his followers on Wednesday night, and added another tweet Thursday morning, saying that he’s taken a recent liking to H Street:
For three years, Pilla tossed pies at Seventh Hill pizza. He left the shop last month for what was supposed to be a new gig, helping to start a new restaurant with the owners of Acqua al 2, according to The Washington Post. Pilla would not comment on the details of that partnership.
But, for pizza lovers on the Hill, it’s a sigh of relief to know that Pilla is staying in the neighborhood.
