Stormtroopers: The Clean-Up Edition

I hope all is well after the weekend’s crazy weather. How is everyone doing out there? Some on the Hill (myself included, bless you my sweet little corner of SE) have been very lucky and were largely unaffected by Mother Nature’s wrath.  As for everyone else, I hope the power is restored soon, as this heat is unbearable for people & pups alike (not to mention the barely tolerable inconvenience of not having readily available access to cell phones, iPads, computers, DVR… the horrid list goes on and on…)

The Department of Public Works will be collecting residential storm debris in Ward 6 this week through Saturday July 7th. Residents can also bring debris to the Ft. Totten transfer station. DPW services will be suspended today (July 4th) and resume on Thursday.

DPW advises:

–If hiring a tree specialist or landscaping company to cut up fallen trees and limbs, please have your contractor remove all the debris, limbs, and branches.

–From July 1 – July 7 only, the Department of Public Works will remove from the treebox spaces in front of residents’ homes, branches that are cut into 4′ lengths, and tied into bundles no more than 2′ in diameter. These items can be placed where the residents’ trash is collected or they may bring them to the Ft. Totten Transfer Station (4900 John McCormack Road, NE), weekdays – EXCEPT July 4th, Independence Day – between 1pm and 5pm, or Saturday, July 7, between 8am and 3pm.

–Please place debris, bagged or loose, in the treebox space, not at the gutter or in the street. This will allow the streets to remain clear and crews to run mechanical sweepers along the curb lanes and gutters. This will also help to prevent flooding in case of rain before the debris is collected. Please DO NOT include rocks, stones, or concrete.

–In once-a-week trash and recycling collection neighborhoods, collections will “slide” to the next day. This means Wednesday’s collections will be made Thursday, Thursday collections will be Friday, and so on.

–In twice-a-week collection neighborhoods, normal collections will be made on Monday and Tuesday, however, Thursday’s collections will be made Friday, and Friday’s collections will be made on Saturday.
