Fun for your Humpday: Things to do with seven extra minutes

Hello there, Capitol Hill and beyond! It’s Wednesday– that silly day sandwiched between Tuesday and Thursday and which for many is simply not that exciting. I am here to give you seven extra minutes of Wednesday, and to tell you how to spend them!

First, if you’re going to eat lunch at your desk (and I know you are, because it’s DC and you are likely an overachiever and it’s going to be 88 degrees today, which I guess is better than the 101 high of tomorrow), watch this great TED Talk by gaming designer Jane McGonigal. Try not to concentrate too much on her awesome wrinkly over-the-knee boots:

Okay. Feeling refreshed and happier and ready to go hand-shake and hug the world! Excellent! Now we can focus on how to spend that extra seven minutes being happy and having FUN:

1. Did you know yesterday was National Tequila Day? Wisdom celebrated it with a habanero-infused Dragon’s Tit– maybe you can ask for one, or just toast that wicked liquor neat! Or….

2. You can drink a Margarita at the new-and-improved Johnny’s on the Half Shell‘s patio, which calls for a celebration! (Thanks for the tip, Thrillist!)

3. Or, you can go here:

Yes! HANK’S OYSTER BAR IS NOW OPEN ON THE HILL! Claudia mentioned it yesterday but it’s worth repeating because anywhere you can go where you can slurp oysters and look at some sweet apothecary-looking crazy bar is a-OK in my book! Let’s hear it for the newest spot to go into the spot where Locanda and Ba Bay have failed. YAY OYSTERS!

4. Finally, you can think about a jam or a jelly to make for the DC State Fair. Here is a fun suggestion: red pepper jelly, for the win?
