To Do

Detail from a work by artist Tom Block on display now at The Fridge

Never a dull moment here in your nation’s capital.  After we are done rolling our eyes, shaking our heads and burying our faces in our hands at our beloved city government’s inability to go a month with embarrassing us all how will we take our minds off of our troubles this weekend?

Maria gave us a joyous lead off to the upcoming weekend so check out her suggestions.

Tonight try some Spanish wine at…Belga? Okay why not? Honorio Noya from Veiga Serantes in Rias Baixas will be pouring wine at the Belga bar from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Taste wines from Galicia, Spain, and Belga’s B’apas menu will be available.

This weekend is your final chance to catch the Shakespeare meets Deadwood Taming of the Shrew at the Folger. Kate loved it and I’m sure you will too.  Also hearing good things about No Rules Theatre’s Suicide Incorporated at the H Street Playhouse. Just your typical tragi-comedy about a company dedicated to the art of suicide note.  Tickets are $25 and you can buy them and read more about the show here.

Friday night head to the Fridge for the world premier of the play White Noise. Artist turned playwright Tom Block uses his own large scale paintings as a backdrop for this piece about an artist who travels to Detroit for an exhibit of his spiritually-themed work. The play was featured at the Kennedy Center’s Page to Stage festival and will run only this weekend though Block’s work will be on display at the Fridge until July 2. Tickets are $15 – $20 and you can purchase them here.

L’ Academie de Cuisine cooking school in Maryland is where a lot of local cooks got their training. The school’s founder Francois Dionot is going to be conducting L’Academie classes at the Hill Center. The first class is Saturday from 1pm – 3pm and costs $65. You will learn to prepare soft shell crab, duck breast and creme brulee.  Read more about the series and register on the Hill Center’s website. http://hillcenterdc.org/home/programs/244
