I See the Light, and I have an Opinion

When I saw the thread on the Newhilleast list serve I clicked the link and read the email thread. It amazes me not only the way we can complain about something thanks to email list serves and blogs, but the way we can attack one another in the most private of public forums. So, when I was done laughing at the thread of messages that seem to be the norm on the listserv these days, I admitted that I was not happy about the development.

I live in Northeast and often travel to parts Southeast via 10th Street. From the point I turn onto 10th street until it ends at the Marine Barracks, there is only one traffic light in my way, making the street the neighborhood equivalent of the Northeast-Southeast expressway, minus the speeding–regular travelers know that you can’t speed down the narrow street.

In the end, I recognize that the light will only add a short time to my travel time, for the kind folks at DDOT aren’t foolish enough to put a light at say 10th Street and East Capitol or 10th Street and Mass Ave, where crossing via 10th Street in one’s car can be quite dangerous. I also recognize that this will make it easier for pedestrians to cross without having to walk to another corner. And we all know pedestrians get the right of way, that’s why we stop for pedestrians at 7th Street and Maryland Ave, right?

Now, tell us what you think!, take the poll and leave us a comment.
