  • The Capital City Diner was moved off its lot and, after much speculation, it was revealed that the developer Edens purchased it and has plans for it at the Florida Avenue Market. (DCist, Frozen Tropics, HuffPost DC, Eater DC)
  • Curbed DC reported that The Capitol Hillbilies have kicked off their latest season so keep an eye out for their rolling piano.
  • Housing Complex reported that the Fairgrounds are looking for advertisers for the sides of their shipping containers.  I tend to agree with DePillis that the ads would take away a bit of the charm of the containers…although charm also isn’t quite the word I’d use to describe how the concept turned out.
  • Gwyneth Paltrow featured DC on a travel issue of her newsletter, Goop, and listed Montmartre, saying “the hearty French comfort food at this cozy bistro tucked away in Capitol Hill is decidedly from the South: succulent braised rabbit leg to classic cassoulet and more. The atmosphere is true bistro — intimate, inviting and casual, which also describes the prices. The excellent brunch features mussels done four ways and a killer Eggs Benedict. For a perfect DC outing, pair with a pre- or post- stroll through nearby Eastern Market, which is full of farmers’ market stalls and local artisans on weekends.”  Love her or hate her, I always love when our neighborhood (and one of my favorite restaurants) gets a shout out.
