The Hill Is Rocking 4/6 – 4/19

Well now that Spring has finally officially sprung (Winter..what happened?) we’re right on the cusp of the prime concert season and so it goes that the shows are going to be coming fast and furious from here on out. With that in mind we’re just gonna get right to it. These might not be all of the shows that you’ll be able to rock your face off at in the coming weeks, but in our opinion they are some of the best.

Cavemen returns to The Red Palace on 4/9. DO.NOT.MISS.THIS.SHOW

This Friday you’re gonna have to choose between stellar indie rock all the way from Canada or rooting for the home team as Plants and Animals bring their laid back fuzzy, folky brand of indie-rock to the Red Palace while over at the Rock and Roll DC’s own Naylor Court plays with Rene Moffat of Listen Local First fame taking over the opening duties.

On Monday, April 9th, Brooklyn’s Caveman will return to the Red Palace’s tiny stage. We caught the band opening for The War On Drugs there last year and were pretty squarely blown away, so if there were a show that we’d suggest you have to be at, this would be the one.

The very next night on Tuesday, April 10th, get ready to for some supercharged indie-rock by way of Austin, TX when White Denim hits the Rock and Roll Hotel. Coming off a recent opening spot on the Wilco tour and rave reviews of their latest effort D, White Denim is poised to hit it big this year, so make sure you see em now before you have to sell your soul to Craigslist trying to get tickets to see them in some of the larger venues in town. Bonus: Fellow Austinites Hundred Visions, a band who just popped up on our radar and have been destroying our headphones all week, are opening. WIN/WIN!

Friday the 13th may be unlucky to some, but for you it means your chances to rock are DOUBLED! Over at the Red Palace Howler and their poppy “surf thrash” will be taking over with a little help from Pittsburgh’s 1,2,3 (on yet another trip through DC). Meanwhile The Rock and Roll Hotel will play host to rock darlings Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s as they tour in support of their latest record, Rot Gut, Domestic.

If somehow you’re lucky enough to survive that double dose of rock, then your reward shall be the glorious post punk sounds of Crystal Stilts come to the Rock and Roll Hotel  on Saturday the 14th (anyone else remember this epic piece of cinema?) and are bringing their friends Widowspeak and DC’s very own Hume along for the ride.

That about wraps it up for this edition of the Hill Is Rocking. We’ve got some music below that we think you should be putting in your earholes for you below, so be sure to check that out and we’ll be back in two weeks to take control of your concert calendar yet again. Until next time!
