In case anyone is unaware of the actual renovation plans for Union Station, they are planning on removing the Center Cafe that sits in the center of the Main Hall and replacing it with elevators and stairs to the lower level. I had always thought of the cafe in the center hall as one of the quintessential landmarks in DC and the main hall has always been such a warm, welcoming, and friendly gathering place to sit and have a drink with people traveling from all over the world. I felt like it was Capitol City’s living room.

I believe the comment period is already over, which is disappointing because I just learned of the plans to change the main hall recently and I never saw the details of the plan online. I would have loved to encourage them to keep the existing cafe or incorporate some kind of restaurant/bar/lounge area into the plans that is similar to where the Center Cafe sits today. Taking it away just ruins the character of the whole building.
