The Hill Is ROCKING: 3/23 – 4/6

Once again it’s time for you to get all the details about all the Rock N’ Roll that’s fit to walk to in this fine city–provided you happen to live in the Hill, that is. Sure everything is in bloom, and the cherry blossoms have arrived SUPER early (take that Cherry Blossom Festival planners?) but that doesn’t do SQUAT for your earholes. And since night time is the right time for walking around this beautiful time of year, plan on putting on your walking shoes and heading down to H Street to catch some of the kickass rock and roll that’s coming your way.

Dylan Baldi of Cloud Nothings wants to rock your face off. No. Really.

If the last two weeks were all about local artists, the next two are all about the hippest indie rock going these days (SXSW hangover?).

Kicking it of tonight, Polica (featuring members of Gayngs and Bon Iver) will be bring their poptastic electro-R&B to the Red Palace. The show is sold out, so it promises to be a sweaty, packed-in good time, but if you can find a ticket it will be well worth your while. If alt-country is more your thing, then head across the street to the Rock and Roll Hotel and check out Nashville’s Andrew Leahey & The Homestead.

On Saturday, things get flipped around with Youth Lagoon bringing his unique brand of electronic folk by way of a bedroom recording to the downstairs stage at the Rock and Roll Hotel. This show is also sold out, so prepare to get sweaty. Holding down the alt-ish country front at the Red Palace you’ll be able to check out the sweet stylings of Katie Herzig with Norfolk, Va’s Bison opening. Katie has played around the DC area a few times before, but this is her first venture into the big city, so head on down and make her feel welcome! And don’t forget your cowboy hat.

Jumping ahead to the next weekend on Friday, March 30th, shoegaze legends Swervedriver will attempt to rock the Rock and Roll Hotel to the ground by doing nothing but staring at their shoes. Then on Saturday the 31st, Cleveland’s super hyped Cloud Nothings, whose album “Attack On Memory” is topping critics lists everywhere this year, will play to yet another sold out crowd at The Red Palace. Indie music lovers: hope you’ve got your ticket for that one already!

That’s about it for this installment of The Hill Is Rocking. There are links for you to listen to all of the bands we’ve mentioned below, as well as a few of our suggestions for what you should be putting in your ears as you walk around and enjoy this gorgeous weather.

Until next time….
