Get Your Vitamin D Fix

This warm weather has been an ideal way to usher in spring following the best (read: nonexistent) DC winter I’ve ever experienced. With so much sunshine and dare I say flip flops in your future, outdoors are the new indoors. And you don’t have to break the piggy bank to have some fun.

This week, Capitol Bikeshare reported people were biking in record numbers. Leave the car keys at home and bike to your next Hill destination. It can cost as little as $7 for a 24 hour rental.

Lincoln Park has been packed with pups and their owners in recent weeks. The park is also a great place for socializing with friends and kids love the playground – and it doesn’t cost a penny. Another option is The Yards Park, a cool place to check out if you haven’t been.

Members of Congressional Cemetery’s dogwalking program visit in all types of weather, but its especially nice in springtime. And with plenty of water spouts, you can ensure pups get exercise and stay hydrated.

No dog? The cemetery is still worth visiting and you can take the cell phone guided tour for free.

Why not grab your racquet and head to the courts at Anacostia Park? They are not the most well maintained courts in the world, but they get the job done. Is your serve in need of a little TLC? It will cost you, but not too much. Tennis on the Hill offers clinics and classes for all ages.

Al fresco dining is a warm weather staple. A stroll down H Street or Barracks Row will yield a variety of options. Eastern Market always draws a crowd, even more so when the sun is shining. Kids, animals, appetites and of course wallets are welcome.
