To Do List

We have a busy weekend ahead of us and for many Monday is a day off to enable us to pay respect to all of our presidents and as well as shop for mattresses. This is the last three-day weekend for a while so have fun people. We have a few long months until Memorial Day.

If you are not escaping to the slopes or maybe even somewhere sandier we have plenty of ideas for how you can spend your time.

Thursday: Tonight is a good night for music lovers. Singer-songwriter Michaela Anne brings her country-folk Americana-by-way-of-Brooklyn to the Corner Store. A $15 donation is requested. If you have yet to check out this totally unique neighborhood gem I urge you to find the time. If you need still more bluegrass, SOVA’s weekly bluegrass blowout gets going around 9 so you can maybe squeeze in both shows. You can do it!

Our wonkier readers may prefer to head over to the Sherwood Recreation Center for a meeting outlining the Performance Parking project that is headed for H Street. It’s sure to draw a crowd because we know how devoted Hill-dwellers are to that space in front of their house. Oh wait did I just write that? It’s a city people.

Friday: This weekend is the last chance to catch small but mighty Rorshach Theatre’s production of The Gallerist at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Why should you? Well if the reviews don’t convince you then maybe then perhaps the lady possessed by the spirit of a dead monkey will.

Saturday: Head over to Capitol Hill Yoga for a Restorative Yoga workshop. The two hour workshop begins at 3 and from what I know of restorative yoga, this will involved a lot of lying on pillows with your eyes closed. Yum.

Sunday: After brunch, indulge your inner child. No Rules Theatre is back at the H Street Playhouse with an original interpretation of the classic tale Peter Pan. This one invokes one of J.M. Barrie’s considered titles “The Boy Who Hated Mothers” and the production takes a darker look at the boy who refused to grow up. Some things are different but the classic elements remain. Tinkerbell, Captain Hook and John’s top hat all make it into this ode to the beauty and terror of childhood. Kids over ten are welcome.

Sunday night get in on the action yourself at the Hill Center.  Labyrinth Presents: Murder at Mardi Gras: A Masked Murderer Unveiled!

Sunday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Here’s how they are describing it:  “The honor of your presence is requested at the annual Krewe of Midas Masquerade Ball. Our King, Pierre DuPre, and his Queen, Melissa DuPre, look forward to seeing you at the Hill Center for what promises to be the social highlight of Washington, DC’s Mardi Gras celebration!”

There’s mystery afoot on Capitol Hill! The Krewe of Midas’ King Pierre DuPre has been strangled with a set of Mardi Gras beads. It’s time for all party revelers to discover the truth about his demise!

This event will be hosted by Labyrinth Games & Puzzles at the Hill Center. Questions? Please call 202-544-1059 or email kathleen@labyrinthgameshop.com.

Cost: $20, plus cash bar. Limited tickets for this event may be purchased by calling Labyrinth at 202-544-1059 or stopping by the Labyrinth store!

And…drumroll, the To Do is going to be my new thing, since we have retired the tired Circle Time. Don’t cry for it… Anyway if you have anything for me to include let us know because otherwise it could easily just be filled lots and lots of Atlas stuff. Not that there is anything wrong with that!

Jen DeMayo is Director of Community at the Atlas Performing Arts Center.
