The Hill Is ROCKING! 2/24-3/9

Guest post series by Kevin Hill of ChunkyGlasses.com

Hiya folks! Kevin here to once again to bring you all of the news about where to go and what to do over the next few weeks if you’re a music fan who happens to call the Hill their home. First up let’s take a look at what’s going on at The Red Palace BESIDES all of the fine beers and busters that you’ve come to expect from this staple of H Street.

DC's own Ra Ra Rasputin plays The Red Palace TONIGHT!

Kicking it off tonight we’ve got the synthtastic sounds of  DC’s very own Ra Ra Rasputin taking over the upstairs, so supporter s of our local scene need to be sure to make it down to that.  On Saturday, the futurefied cowboywave (you heard the term here first folks!) sounds of New York’s Javelin will be there, urging you to tune in, turn on and drop out.

Moving right along, if sunny pop with a side of twang is your thing then Kristy Hanson has got what you’ve been looking for on February 28th. That show is followed up the very next night by the classic rock tinged sounds of Baltimore’s very own Harmonic Blue. Then on Friday, March 2nd, get ready for some more classic sounds by way of ukulele in the form of singer/songwriter Julia Nunes. And finally on March 3rd the Dex Romweber Duo will bring their Jack White approved brand of amped up rockabilly to the Red Palace to close the first weekend of the month out in style.

Super intimate venues where you can see some of the hottest up and coming bands not your thing? Well than let’s take a look and see what’s going on across the street at The Rock And Roll Hotel.

Tonight you’ll need to carry your butt on down to 1353 H Street to check out New York folksters Pearl and the Beard, at least if you know what’s good for you. Last seen opening for David Wax Museum at the venerable 9:30 Club, these guys put on a hell of a show, and as a bonus incentive, DC’s very own The Torches will be opening!

On Saturday the 25th, you can enjoy the “roots afro pop” sounds of DC-based Elikah (along with fellow District natives The Chariots ) and then it’s a few days of nothing until we get to the double whammy of Caroline Smith and The Good Night Sleeps on March 1st, and The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn performing solo on the 2nd (Hold Steady fans, you already have your tickets. The rest of you, this show are soooooold out).

That’s it for this installment of The Hill is Rockin’. You can by tickets to any of these events on the venues respective websites, or just pick em up at the door as you’re on the way out of Toki Underground. And don’t forget that even if there isn’t music going on, there’s always a DJ or Variety show going on (like this possibly DUNE based one…here’s hoping it involves Sting, or sandworms, or BOTH!) so get out there and give your local business owners AND artists some love , OK.
