Weekend East City Event Round Up: Fall Open Studios Edition

Friday November 11

Art Works Studio Gallery (7pm to 9pm)

Described as “painting expressed as pure joy”, Laurie Breen’s Still-Lives-Accumulation of Meaning is a collection of colorful yet complex mixed media pieces.  The accumulated layers of media, which include words, force the viewer to reconsider his/her relationship with the subject-matter.   For additional details, click here.

Saturday November 12

Albus Cavus Open Studios (Noon to 7pm)

The beloved artist collective responsible for creating many of the murals around DC is hosting an open house at their studios on Capitol Hill.  The event will feature furniture, design and “art solutions”. For additional details, click here.

The Albus Cavus Studios are located in the alley between the 600 block of E and G Streets SE

The Capitol Hill Art League (5pm to 7pm)
The Capitol Hill Art League (CHAL) hosts its November all-media juried exhibition.  The presiding juror is Henry Allen, a journalist and Pulitzer Prize winning critic.  For additional details, click here.

39th Street Gallery (5:30pm to 8pm)

The Brentwood Gallery presents Shape Shifters a group show featuring the work of Karl Connolly and Jan Razauskas curated by artist Stewart Watson.  The duo’s work moves between recognizable and abstract images.  For additional details, click here.

Sunday November 13

Gateway Arts District Open Studios (Noon to 5pm)

While not nearly as extensive as the May 2011 open studio tour, the fall open studio tour offers the public an opportunity to visit several important local studios and see the work of dozens of artists.

 

The studios include:

The Brentwood Arts Exchange complex located at 3901 Rhode Island Ave, Brentwood MD

EZ-Storage Studios located at 4301 Rhode Island Ave, Brentwood, MD

Red Dirt Studios located at 3706-08 Otis Street, Mount Rainier, MD

Ellen Weiss Studios located at 3706 Wells Ave, Mount Rainier, MD
