Monday Morning Circle Time

Good morning everyone! The weekend was so perfectly lovely I hope you enjoyed every last moment.  Yesterday we gained an extra hour: did you do something special to mark the gift of time? I am so in love with fall anywhere, but the Hill in autumn puts me over the top. I love walking through crunchy leaves and suddenly catching a sniff of a someone’s fire. Throw in the extra hour and I’m in heaven. Sigh.

So what did you do this weekend? Did anyone make it to the John Philip Sousa celebration at Congressional Cemetery?

Jon: Busy weekend, starting with a celebration on Friday night to open the new District Architecture Center on 7th Street NW in Penn Quarter. Saturday was spent at a joyful wedding ceremony and reception.  Sunday I was on daddy-duty for the late morning and early afternoon, so we spent some time in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria with my brother and sister-in-law, enjoying brunch and then a trip to the Dairy Godmother.  The rest of Sunday was spent catching up on chores around the house that were ignored all weekend.

Nichole: I spent the weekend in the woods, along the shores of the Patuxent River on the last camping trip of the year. The good friends, good food (cornbread chili in the dutch oven!), and good drink more than made up for the chilly late night temps in the tent!

Maria: Saturday was spent exploring the Disney catalog of movies and bawling to the sadder moments of said movies; later, there was much swooning over Hugh Grant while the rugrats played with Legos and Duplos and prevented said swooning. Later in the evening, a couple of beers, guacamole, salsa and chips were thoroughly enjoyed with a good friend. Sunday brought house cleaning and chores and grocery shopping and a quick detour to buy books and a couple of other necessities. Oh, and that extra hour… seductress that it is.

Lauren: Saturday was full of errands and time spent outside with the pup, and setting my DVR to record all of the fabulous movies that were on that I used to watch as a kid (“Beauty and the Beast,” “Hocus Pocus”) Sunday was clothes-shopping in VA which was a success followed by backyard grilling for dinner. Winter, please stay away.

Jen: Friday night I channeled my inner-suburban mom by joining in a ladies-only Bunco game. I did not walk away with the cash but it was lots of fun. Saturday both kids won their soccer games which we celebrated with brunch with new friends at Montmarte. That night I finally caught the amazing Rorschach Theatre show at the Atlas. It was a fantastic piece of theatre and I’m sorry if you missed it. Sunday was spent puttering around the house until the evening when I went to the Fridge for the Hilly Awards nominee reception. One week to go. Get your tickets!
