For the past 8 or 9 years, Moms on the Hill has done a big collection of donations of Thanksgiving Baskets. The effort has been led most of that time by local business owner Meg Shapiro.  She and her husband Seth own the Marvelous Market on 7th Street.  Each year Meg puts out a call for donations on the listserv. Volunteers then assemble these donations into individual baskets which create one complete Thanksgiving dinner for a family, except for a Turkey.  While the baskets contains the fixin’s for all the traditional side, potatoes, green bean and sweet potatoes, they also receive a Safeway gift card worth $20 which the recipients to purchase a turkey on their own if they choose. Capitol Hill Group Ministry distributes the baskets to their clients, most of them living in the Potomac Gardens complex on Pennsylvania Avenue SE.

As of this morning still needed were:

28 – $20 gift cards
27 cans frosting
27 bisquick or muffin mix
70 cans cranberry sauce
20 boxes stuffing
70 cans yams
80 boxes mashed potatoes/rice.
If you can help the effort please drop off your donations at Marvelous Market by noon on Saturday.
