I always welcome the addition of more sweet treat shops on the Hill, so its sad to see this one go.
Capitol Hill Bakery (previously Café Roma) is closing its cupcake storefront this Sunday (Oct 30th). Having opened a couple of months ago, management says the location (411 18th Street NE) wasn’t conducive to retail activity and that light foot traffic also factored into their decision to close. But! — the bakery itself remains open, and orders can be placed Monday-Friday (24 hour notice is requested).
Management originally opened the storefront on weekends back in August as a way to introduce people to their gourmet cupcakes and make face to face contact. So hopefully you had a chance to try one! If not, there are plans to open a food truck location soon, so keep an eye out for the addition of a Capitol Hill Bakery truck around the Hill.
