Writer's Center Comes to the Hill

The Writer’s Center, a resource for workshops and events that help foster the craft of writing for people of all backgrounds and ages, is offering fall classes on Capitol Hill.  The Bethesda-based organization has partnered with the Hill Center to offer classes locally.

The workshops kick off with  Travel and Food Writing, which sounds awfully tempting, and also includes Journal Writing, Teen Creative Writing and First Fire: From Spark to Practice.  Given some of the comments posted on this site, there are quite a few creative, if snarky, writers in the neighborhood so I expect the expansion to the Hill will be met with open arms.

Has any one of the following promised events occurred at Hill Center, and I just missed them?

[Promises from most recent and final “In the News” posting on Hill Center website, June 29, 2011]:

“* Hill Center will launch ‘softly’ in August with…
    * … a series of program offerings designed to test both the building’s systems and the capacities for the various spaces.
    * Also, we will do extensive sound tests both inside and outside the building to ensure compliance with local sound ordinances.
    * We will continue to work closely with Capitol Hill residents, and particularly our immediate neighbors, to assure the Center’s success.
    * We count on having a vibrant, ongoing dialogue
    * …we will schedule a series of community listening sessions so that we can address issues quickly and forthrightly.”

Waiting patiently for this “community center” to reach out to the community.

We have some calls in with the Hill Center staff to get an update on their opening schedule, offerings, etc. As soon as we hear, we’ll let you know.
(hint, hint Hill Center folks….the anticipation grows and people want to know!)
