Labor Day Concert on Capitol Lawn

Depending on your personality, Labor Day can be a glass half full or a glass half empty kind of holiday. Sure, it means an extra day off from work (half full), but on the other hand it’s pretty much a neon sign announcing the unofficial end of summer (half empty). So whether you’re celebrating or sulking, are all welcome at this Sunday’s Labor Day concert at the Capitol grounds.

Put on by the National Symphony Orchestra, this year’s annual concert will feature the music of John Philip Sousa and Duke Ellington, as well as a live performance by the “Godfather of Go-Go,” Chuck Brown.

The concert will take place on the West Lawn of the Capitol and admission is free. Music starts at 8pm, but you can park yourself by the gate at 5p to ensure a prime location for you and your pals. The Summer Concert Hotline (202-416-8114) will be operational starting at 2:30p 0n Sunday, you can call to find out if inclement weather will force the concert indoors (which better not be necessary after last weekend – I’m talking to you, Irene!).
