I freely admit to getting sucked in to 30-minute semi-reality shows on channels like HGTV and the Discovery Channel, and “House Hunters” is both hypnotizing and frustrating to me at the same time. But multiple times a week, I get to accompany one or two folks and their realtors on a tour of three potential new homes and then try to guess which one they ultimately purchase. (And wouldn’t it be nice if the whole home-buying process were as clear-cut and quick as this half-hour show led you to believe?) Often, I am baffled by their selections. Don’t even get me started on “House Hunters International.”
Tonight’s episode hits closer to home, as a newly-married couple looks for a home on Capitol Hill. The write up on the HGTV website sounds more like the set-up for a sitcom, but we all know there are multiple facets to a new home we want to balance before settling on one property. Tune in the HGTV this evening at 8:00 p.m. to find out what Hill homes were considered and where the couple ended up. If you miss the episode it will be repeated at 3:00 a.m. and again on August 29 at 11:00 p.m.
I kept thinking the realtor should have been able to show nicer places for the 550k price range. But then I looked around on Redfin, and it was hard to find anything without going up to Hill East or Near Northeast. I haven’t looked since we bought in 2009, prices seem to have gone up a fair amount.
