THIH Summer Photo Contest!

uploaded to flickr.com by auggie tolosa

Okay all you shutterbugs, proud parents, and nosy neighbors – start snapping photos for the first (annual?) The Hill Is Home Summer Photo Contest.  We’d love to see what you capture over the summer months and we have great prizes as incentive.  Think of it as an online gallery opening, or just a way for you to brag about your child or pet.  Either way, sort through your images and send us your best centered on the theme: Summertime on Capitol Hill, or, How I Spent My Summer Staycation, or, Our Neighborhood Is Very Hot & Humid.

All entries are due by 11:59 p.m. on August 5, 2011 and must be emailed to THIH at thihphotos(at)gmail.com.  All images will be eligible for the following awards:

  • Grand Prize: $100 gift certificate to Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW)
  • Runner-up: Gift Certificate for two tickets to any performance at the Atlas Performing Arts Center
  • Reader’s Choice Award, voted on by our readers: $40 Gift Certificate to Wisdom

Readers will be able to vote for their favorite photo during the week of August 8-12, 2011.  Grand prize and runner-up prize will be judged by THIH staff and considered based on creativity, whimsy, uniqueness, and adherence to the contest theme.  Winners will be announced on THIH on Monday, August 15.

Don’t delay! Enter today!

Rules, Terms. Fine Print: Photos must be emailed to the official THIH photo contest address (thihphotos at gmail.com) no later than 11:59 p.m. on August 5, 2011. Each submission should be provided in JPG or TIF format, no larger than 1 MB, and should be accompanied by the photographer’s name, email address, phone number, and mailing address.  All judging decisions are final. Photos submitted to the contest will be added to the The Hill Is Home Flickr Pool; THIH reserves the right to use photos submitted in future posts on the website with proper text credit to the photographer. No additional compensation will be provided. By submitting a photo entry, the submitter asserts the submitted photo is his or her own work and that it bears no copywright.  THIH staff and immediate family members are not eligible for this contest.  THIH encourages free speech and dialogue, but photos containing nudity, vulgarity, or questionable subject matter may be disqualified by the editorial staff at their sole discretion.
