We have had such a pleasant weather week! I have been basking in the glory of open windows with cool air as I sleep, instead of the humming of the air conditioner and stale air. But alas, all good things must come to an end, as the 90 degree weather is about to return with a vengeance this weekend. I suppose it is time for summer to return after a brief hiatus, as school ends and children plot their summers and parents stock up on wine to help ease the blow of the summer chaos that awaits.
A nice way to kick off the weekend, is packing up a picnic dinner and heading to Yards Park on Friday night to listen to the pop music sounds of the band The Congress, as part of their summer concert series.
As the temperatures rise over the weekend, many H street bars are offering “Beat the Heat” beer specials. When the temperatures rise to 98 degrees and above, you can cool off with a nice frothy tallboy beer special for $2 at eight H street establishments. Ask your bartender about what beers will be offered for this low, low price.
After you cool off with a cool beer, you can head over to the Atlas Performing Arts Center to enjoy a performance or two this weekend. Step Afrika: A Home Performance opened on Wednesday evening and will be at the theater until June 26. This weekend is also your last chance to catch Ain’t Misbehavin’ before it closes on Sunday evening. Either of these performances would be a nice way to surprise your theater loving dad!
As Sunday is Father’s Day, and after taking him to see some great stage performances the night before, you can follow up with a trip to the Argonaut for their First Annual Phoenix Fest: Fire Anniversary Party benefiting the DC Fire Fighter Burn Foundation. There will be live music- the debut of the Argo Band, Drink Specials, Cornhole Tourney, Fire Trucks, a moon bounce and much, much more. Events start at 1 p.m.
