The speed at which the summer passes always astounds me. It’s as if there’s a ‘tick tock, tick tock’ echoing along with the crickets at night. That’s precisely why this post is going up now — there’s still time to prioritize ARTventures on H on your summer schedule. Plan accordingly and on June 30 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., you’re free to spend your day working hard at the office, or hardly working at the pool or near the AC, but come nightfall, you’ll have the chance to explore nearly a dozen art galleries and spaces near H Street. Should you be an extremely expedient gallery hopper and make it to each venue, you’ll earn up to a 20% discount at one of more than 17 participating bars, cafes and restaurants.
CHAMPS, Capitol Hill’s Chamber of Commerce, has teamed up with H Street Main Street to produce the ARTventures Art Walk and the associated Dine Around event. Each participant receives an ARTventures “passport,” to be punched at each stop on the art walk. For every punch received, attendees receive an extra 2% discount that evening. The ARTventures on H have created quite a buzz in the past; more than 2500 people participated in the events in February and June 2010. This event promises to be even more joyful than those past; the participating businesses will be celebrating the long awaited completion of H Street street construction. Art patrons will get an added treat if they stop by Little Miss Whiskeys’; the bar is hosting one of their ever-popular Garage Sales, featuring funky pieces created and collected by bar owner Mark Thorp.
