Tuesday evening at 5:45p, residents are invited to gather at Lincoln Park (13 & East Capitol, SE) to “Keep Capitol Hill Together” in a rally to make it clear that blocks on the eastern boundary of Ward 6 do not want to be redistricted into Ward 7. Organized by ANC 6B09 Commissioner Brian Flahaven, the rally has been organized to send a message to redistricting committee members that natural boundaries and shared community amenities should be a priority in redistricting, keeping the united neighbors and cohesive geography of Capitol Hill together rather than sacrifice pieces to other wards. See the rally flyer for more details.
In addition to the rally, Flahaven recently shared his opinion on redistricting with The Hill is Home. This coincides with an online petition started by the Rosedale Citizens’ Alliance and another by a local resident with a similar message: hands off Ward 6.
Official action on redistricting begins this week and will wrap up by the June recess:
Thursday May 26th: Vote in Subcommittee on Redistricting on a proposed map of new Wards.
1pm at the John A. Wilson Building.
Wednesday June 1st: Subcommittee on Redistricting roundtable for resident input.
6pm at the John A. Wilson Building. Those wanting to testify need to contact Carol Sadler at the council at 202.724.8198 or email by 5pm on the 31st of May, and bring 20 copies of their testimony to the meeting.
Tuesday June 7th: First Council vote on the Redistricting plan.
10am at the John A. Wilson Building.
Tuesday June 21st: Final Council vote on the Redistricting plan.
10am at the John A. Wilson Building.
Did this happen? I was over at Lincoln Park during my usual dog walk and didn’t see a rally.
Yes, C, the rally gathered at Lincoln Park and continued down to Eastern HS around 6 pm where Wells and ANC reps spoke.. It was a nice, energetic rally/walk down East Capitol, with peopel coming out of their homes to watch, and lots of kids with parents, dogs, etc., despite the hour.
Here is the Fox News Video clip(s), where the newscaster calls us Ward 4. It’s not due to our handwriting in the placards… Look up, Matt Ackland!

Oh, I didn’t realize it was a moving rally. I guess that’s why I missed it!
Does anyone have a link to the actual proposed map?
@Adam – should be out later today or tomorrow. We’re keeping an eye out ourselves so we can post it asap.
