The census numbers are in and it’s time for the city to redraw the boundary lines for each Ward to maintain a roughly equivalent population in each. Our neighboring Wards need to gain some population, which can directly impact Ward 6 — most notably, to the east and south — Hill East and Near Southeast.
On Thursday, May 5, the Ward 6 Democrats will hold a public meeting on the District’s re-districting plan for Ward 6 from 7-8:30pm in the gymnasium at the Friendship Public Charter School / Chamberlain Elementary, located at 1345 Potomac Ave, SE (across from Harris Teeter).
To Co-Chairs of the City Council’s Special Committee on Redistricting — Councilmembers Phil Mendelson, Michael A. Brown and Jack Evans — will be in attendance along with Tommy Wells to hear from the community. The hosts will also share detailed Census data and maps, so this is a great chance to learn a bit more about the issues and process.
