Voice Your Opinion on Redistricting Thursday Night

The census numbers are in and it’s time for the city to redraw the boundary lines for each Ward to maintain a roughly equivalent population in each.  Our neighboring Wards need to gain some population, which can directly impact Ward 6 — most notably, to the east and south — Hill East and Near Southeast.

On Thursday, May 5, the Ward 6 Democrats will hold a public meeting on the District’s re-districting plan for Ward 6 from 7-8:30pm in the gymnasium at the Friendship Public Charter School / Chamberlain Elementary, located at 1345 Potomac Ave, SE (across from Harris Teeter).

To Co-Chairs of the City Council’s Special Committee on Redistricting — Councilmembers Phil Mendelson, Michael A. Brown and Jack Evans — will be in attendance along with Tommy Wells to hear from the community.  The hosts will also share detailed Census data and maps, so this is a great chance to learn a bit more about the issues and process.

  1. Thanks for posting this and for including the poll. There is no doubt that we need to speak out on this.

Folks should also sign the petition that will be delivered to council members at the meeting on Thursday and at meetings thereafter.

I encourage folks to sign the petition if you haven’t already.
