Hip to the (Bunny) Hop: Easter On The Hill

Easter is nearly here. What’s that you say about the true meaning of the holiday being about something other than marshmallows, chocolate bunnies and those annoying little pieces of fake plastic grass?

If you’re a Capitol Hill parent looking to celebrate Easter with your kids this weekend, you should plan on heading over to Lincoln Park on Saturday for Easter Eggstravaganza 2011! The event kicks off at 1pm (East Capitol St between 11th & 13th) Among the planned activities are two Easter eggs hunts, a life size Easter bunny, cotton candy, face painting, games, and raffle prizes. No ticket or registration necessary.

Frager’s is also hosting an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, appropriately titled the “FrEggers Easter Egg Hunt.” The event is scheduled to last from noon until 3pm. The Easter bunny will also be making an appearance (hey, it’s a busy weekend for him!)

For all you early birds, the first annual Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 6am on Easter Sunday at Congressional Cemetery. Rector Cara Spaccarelli of Christ Church Washington Parish on Capitol Hill will be presiding. For more information visit HCC’s website.

Saint Peter’s Catholic Church will have an Easter egg hunt for children following the conclusion of 11am mass on Sunday.

If its not a chocolate bunny wrapped in foil, I personally am not interested in eating it on Sunday. But should you want to consume a special Easter meal, its worth checking out the offerings at Art & Soul, where a three-course prix fixe menu (either brunch or dinner) is being offered. Brunch will be served from 10am-4pm and dinner from 4:30pm-9:00pm.

Belga Café will also have Easter brunch on Sunday, starting at 9am.

The White House Easter Egg Roll is Monday, but if you aren’t already in possession of a ticket, you won’t be attending. But you can get in the Easter spirit by perusing the creative concoctions submitted to The Washington Post’s “Peeps Show” contest. I’m in love with the “Escalator Collapse at Peepy Bottom”, but I’ll let you decide for yourself!

Lastly, all the Easter Candy left on store shelves after the holiday will be selling for half off. I love candy. I freely admit this, just don’t cut me in the checkout line.
