Walking Shtick Tours Return

With St. Patrick’s Day and the first day of Spring rapidly approaching, it is only appropriate to go out and take a walk in the neighborhood. And nothing improves a walk more than a drink here and there. Fortunately, Walking Shtick Tours has you covered both ways, and they will be debuting two new walking tours this weekend to prove it.

Join fellow The Hill is Home writer Tim Krepp and myself in discovering this fascinating — not to say intoxicating – aspect of Hill history.

The first tour will start on Friday at 7:00 pm. From the jumping-off point in the back of Pound The Hill, walkers will be shown a number of local watering holes both past and present, and learn about how taverns, beer gardens, and corner bars shaped Capitol Hill’s history. The tour will stop at several watering holes, allowing everyone to get into the spirit of the occasion. (Sorry about that)

On Saturday, it is time for the Hill East to get the business. Starting from Wisdom, the tour will wend its way around several important locations — alcohol-wise — on the eastern side of the Hill, before returning to Wisdom for further drinks.

Join the crew from Walking Shtick for one or both tours, the cost is a mere $15 (plus any drinks you might imbibe) and each tour will last about one hour – though the guides will be happy to stay on afterwards over a beer or three to expound on the finer points of bars, alcohol in general and, most of all, Capitol Hill history.

Where We Drink: Friday, 7 PM, Pound The Hill, 621 Pennsylvania Avenue SE.

Hill East Needs a Drink: Saturday, 7 PM, Wisdom, 1432 Pennsylvania Ave SE.
